Sinful Colors Rise and Shine

So today I polished my nails with Sinful Colors Rise and Shine, a bright turquoise color with the tiniest bit of shimmer if you look reeeeaallly close, that turned out to have a matte finish. The bottles don't tell you matte or shiny so I wish I knew before hand. I actually like it though so I decided to skip the usual top coat to keep the matte finish.

I also added Nicole by OPI's No Limits, which is a extremely dark blue which pretty much looks black on my ring finger for an accent nail. No Limits has a shiny finish so I like the contrast between the two.

All I needed was one thick coat.
Here is how it looked like in my house with dim warm lighting:

and one more

Here is how it looks outside in the sunlight:

Here is how it looked outside in the shade:

In the photo above you can really see the difference in the matte and shiny. With only one coat and no top coat I'll let you know how this holds up. I am a waitress though so I put a hurtin' on my nails so keep that in mind. I'll update with how it lasts.

What's your fav Sinful Colors nail polish?
Day 1: I worked and that's when most chipping occurs but even without a top coat no chipping yet!!
Day 2: I was off today only a bit of edge wear on my pointer finger.

Bliss A Tan for All Seasons

So I found Bliss A Tan for All Seasons at Ross for $7.99 and it retails for $38 at Sephora! So I bought 2 bottles of it.

I scrubbed my whole body with a $1 sugar scrub from the Dollar Store (worked really well) to exfoliate the skin. Applied lotion to rough spots like elbows, knees, wrists, ankles, etc. I then applied the product wearing plastic gloves from the Dollar store and rubbed the self tanner on the backs of my hands after I took the gloves off and was finished. I then washed my palms.

It dried really really fast pretty much right after you rubbed it in. I still waited 15 mins to put clothes on because that is what the instructions suggested.

Here are the before and after photos:

Then I took photos right after I applied the product.

I applied the self tanner at 11am. This is how it looked at 9pm after giving it a while to process:

I think it gives a believable light tan without any orange.

I'll show you the before and afters side by side so you can get a better idea.

I think the flash may have blown out the legs on the after photo. I tried to take them in the same spot with the camera the same length away.

In real life the tan is very subtle but you can re apply for a darker look it says.

  • Comes out purple so you can see where you are applying
  • Tan looks real not orange at all
  • The smell isn't bad but not delicious either
  • Dries very quick
  • Doesn't transfer on to clothing or sheets

  • Normally $38 for a small can
  • had a few patches but they are pretty light
  • Not a very dark or noticeable tan if that is what you're looking for
It says it should last for a week. I will update you on how long it lasts and how it fades.

OPI Quality for $2?

I think I may have finally found my holy grail of cheap nail polishes.

Sinful colors in mint apple has been on my nails for 7 days and this is how they look

Only a little bit of edge wear! Wow. I'm really excited to try more of sinful colors and see if their formula holds up on other colors as well!

Sinful Colors - Dream on!

Okay dolls today I finally got to try my Sinful Colors nail polish in Dream On! In real life it is a deep metallic fushia with just a touch of magenta. Inside it looks more purple but in daylight and when I was at work it looked more pinkish. Either way it's neon!
The first coat:

Can you say streaky? wow it has a very thin formula. I wasn't excited to see this.

Here is a closer look at my 1st coat on my other hand:

Here's the 2nd coat:

Still streaky but getting a little better. At this point I knew it was going to be a three or four coat nail polish.

Here is the 3rd coat

The pointer finger and thumb ended up getting a 4th coat and the others were left with a third because they finally looked true to color.

Here is a close up of what the final color looked like after three or four coats.

As you can see the polish is sort of matte. It's definitely not shinny. I don't know if I like the matte sort of look with this bright of color so I topped it off with a shiny fast drying coat.

Here is how they look with the shinny coat:

So I am not a fan of the streakyness but I do like the color and I am obsessed with the shape of sinful color's bottles. The polish is thin enough and VERY fast drying so that doing 3 or 4 coats is really not a problem. I'll let you know how long it lasts and when it starts to chip.

So here's the break down:

  • Very streaky
  • Needs 3 or 4 coats to get an opaque color
  • has a slight matte finish that I'm not in love with

  • I love the packaging and shape of the bottles
  • They only cost $2
  • Extremely fast drying
  • Thin enough so that multiple coats are possible without being a thick mess that never dries

They test will be how long it lasts and how it holds up. I'll let yall know how it goes!

I was delighted to receive a package yesterday and it had my new 1 1/2 inch hot tools curing iron in it!!

I own the 3/4 marcel hot tools curing iron that I bought for $40. It's the only iron that I have used that gets hot enough to hold a curl in my hair. I have a 1 1/2 inch curling iron now but my curls fall out so fast even with tons of hair spray because it doesn't get hot enough.

I'm hoping to have better luck with this one! It was only $25 off ebay with FREE shipping! I got a great deal! I can't wait to try it out!

Rainbow Eyes for $1

I did a rainbow tutorial with my LA colors palette in WildFlowers. Here is how it turned out.

This was done with dollar eyeshadow. You don't have to spend lots of money to get pigmented shadow all the time.

Here's the video if you are interested in learning how to do it

Dollar General

I was early to my model casting so I stopped in to the Dollar General next store just to browse. It's always fun to see what other towns have.

I saw this rack of really cute fashion jewelry for $3 each. They we're nicely made, out of glass and such not plastic so I decided I might pick one item up.

I found a bracelet that fit my ridiculously small wrist with black and white glass beads. I have lots of necklaces so now I am trying to work on my bracelet, earring and ring collection.

When starting a collection of accessories I recommend you pick out a few staples to begin with such as Black, white, gold, silver, clear then move on to other colors and styles.

Then I finally picked up another stash of plain black hair ties with no metal clasp. A must have.

Then last but certainly not least I picked up this beauty for only a dollar!! It's the LA colors metallic eyeshadow palette in wild flowers. Aren't the colors just gorgeous?!

Here's it swatched in natural light

And here it is swatched with flash.

Great pigmentation for a $1 product! This is all with no primer or base. I'll probably be doing a tutorial soon with a rainbow eye look for this. They have a satin, slight shimmery finish...metallic as they call them.

I love finding great deals!

Have you found any gems lately?

Nails of the day

My first Nails of the Day

I'm really into doing my own nails and learning how to make them look professional. I'm also on a constant search for a good quality CHEAP nail polish (ie under $6).

I was wearing a deep pink OPI color with chunky glitter top coat. I'd call it Malibu Barbie at the Disco. I took it off today because I have a model casting tomorrow and wanted to go for something more natural and professional.

I went with a classic, simple french manicure. A clear nude color for the base coat. I used Tammy Taylor's nail colour in Califorina French Pink. I swiped a white nail color (Tammy Taylor's nail colour in Califorina French White) on the tips of my nails in a one swipe motion. I had to do 2 or 3 coats to make the white opaque.

I topped it off with my trusty Barielle Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender. It helps the nail polish dry so much faster! I used an orange stick to help fix mistakes as well as a nail polish remover soaked Q-Tip.

Here is how it came out:

It's hard to master the one swipe method for doing tips but with a little bit of practice you can get the hang of it. Doing it with your non-dominant hand (my left in this case) takes a bit more practice. I used to paint my nails horribly like a 5th grader but now I can do a much cleaner job.

Very excited to have picked up Sinful Colors Rise and shine for $1.99 at Walgreens!

Here is a pic: (photo not mine it belongs to Beauty Judy) I wanted to show you the color though!

I'm so excited to try this out! But I think it will look best on short nails (that's just me). I just got my nails to grow out so I might wait a little white before triming them short. But when I do this will be the first polish I reach for.

I love the shape of the bottles and that they look so much like China Glaze.

Also looking forward to trying my new Sinful Colors Dream on:
(Not my photo)

Stay tuned for more of my nail obsession and Nails of the Day!

What are some of your favorite nail polishes?
